Mechanism of action

A hybrid molecule of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and GABA. Provides GABAergic effects without the BBB-crossing problem of standard GABA. The pantothenic acid moiety supports coenzyme A synthesis and acetylcholine production.

History

Pantogam was developed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s and is approved as a prescription drug in Russia for ADHD, anxiety, sleep disorders, and pediatric cognitive conditions. It's unscheduled or in regulatory grey area in most Western jurisdictions. The Russian clinical literature is substantial but largely untranslated; Western evidence is sparse.
